VARANASI POLICE CONSTABLE SHOOTS SELF IN HEAD, CRITICAL

VARANASI: A 53-year-old constable posted at Lalpur-Pandeypur police station area under Varanasi Police Commission­erate shot himself in the head with his revolver in the Paharia area on Saturday morning, police said. He was rushed to the trauma centre at BHU where his condition is stated to be critical, they added.

A police officer informed that constable/driver Yashwant Singh, resident of Pawani Khurd village in Azamgarh district, is posted at Lalpur-Pandeypur police station.

The officer informed that Yashwant Singh was on night duty and accompanie­d by Suryavansh Yadav and his team at Dharmakant­a located in Pahariya Mandi. After doing their duty at night on Saturday morning, the police officers went to a nearby tea stall to drink tea and offered Yashwant to accompany them.

However, he refused and remained seated in the police vehicle. After a while, the cops heard a gunshot and ran to their vehicle where they found Yashwant in an unconsciou­s state with blood oozing from his head.

They immediatel­y informed the senior officers and rushed Yashwant to the trauma centre at BHU where he is undergoing treatment, the officer said. The cops also found the revolver lying inside the jeep.

After receiving informatio­n, his kin reached the trauma centre from Azamgarh.

The officer said that Yashwant had sent a suicide note on WhatsApp to his son before shooting himself. As per the suicide note, he was upset with the ailment of his younger son and also not getting the leaves according to the need.

Commission­er of Police A Satish Ganesh reached the trauma centre and met his wife and children and assured all possible help.
