SRINAGAR: Security forces have killed 62 terrorists belonging to various outfits during encounters across Jammu & Kashmir so far this year, police said on Thursday.

Among those killed, 47 were local and 15 were foreigners. While 39 terrorists belonged to Laskar-e-Taiba (LeT), 15 belong to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), Kashmir inspector general of police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said.

“Total terrorists killed in encounters so far this year62 #Terror #Outfit wise: LeT = 39, JeM=15, HM =06, Al-Badr =02. Among the total 62 killed terrorists, 47 were local terrorists & 15 #foreign terrorists,” Kumar said in a tweet.

It is human and technical intelligence support that led to successful operations against these terrorists in the Valley this year, the IGP said. More than 30 terrorists were neutralised within just three months of their joining the terror outfits, he added.

“Due to enhanced Humint,

Techint & focused operations, the surviving rate of terrorists is drastically decreasing. Out of 62 terrorists killed so far in the current year, 32 terrorists got neutralised within just three months of their joining terror ranks,” Kumar said in another tweet.

The Valley has been witnessing a spate of terrorist attacks on civilians, migrant workers and security personnel, prompting authorities to step up vigil and intensify counter-terror operations in the region. Security forces have also been holding back-toback joint search operations across the four districts of south Kashmir – Kulgam, Pulwama, Shopian and Anantnag.

Recently, Jammu & Kashmir director general of police Dilbag Singh said the security situation in the Union territory is better now compared to the past.

“Everyday, successful operations are being carried out against terrorists. Sometimes, terrorists manage to carry out attacks, but those involved are identified and neutralised,” he said.
