Tiger kills 40-year-old man in Udham Singh Nagar district
HALDWANI: A 40-year-old man was killed in a tiger attack in Khatima area of Udham Singh Nagar district, said forest officials.
The incident happened when the man was travelling through a forest to reach a nearby village.
A joint team of forest and police personnel rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem, said forest officials.
“A 40-year-old man was killed by a tiger in Surai range of Terai East forest division in Khatima area in Udham Singh Nagar district on Friday,” said Shivraj Singh, sub-divisional officer (SDO) of Terai East forest division.
“The man was going to another village through forests. Given the nature of his injuries, it is clear that it was a tiger who attacked and killed him. The deceased has been identified as Rohit, resident of Jhauparsa village in Khatima,” he said
The SDO said when the man didn’t return home on Friday evening, his family members started searching for him. Later in the night, his body was recovered from the forest, he added.
“We have sent his body for post-mortem. His family will get a compensation of ₹ 4 lakh after the required paperwork is completed, “he said
Last month a 65-year-old woman was killed in a tiger attack in Marchula area of Almora district.
On March 31, a tiger killed a 52-year-old woman in the
Fatehpur forest range of Nainital district. On February 22, a 50-year-old woman was mauled to death by a tiger in Haldwani area of Nainital.
On February 8, an elderly man was killed by a tiger near Dhangari gate of Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR).
In May last year, an elderly man was killed by tiger near a nullah in Kishanpur range in Nainital district.
In February last year, a 45-year-old woman was killed by a tiger in Ramnagar area of Nainital district when she had gone to collect fodder in forests.
In 2019, a tiger killed a forest guard Rajesh Negi in Corbett Tiger Reserve’s Kalagarh Forest Division. In July 2019, tiger had mauled a 23-year-old forest watcher Sohan Singh to death in CTR’s Kalagarh area.
