‘After Kashi, ICMR’s heart attack treatment project to be launched in 8 more U.P. dists’
VARANASI : Principal secretary, medical health and family welfare, Uttar Pradesh Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma on Friday said Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)’s heart attack treatment “ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI)” care project, which has been started in Varanasi as a pilot project, will also be started in eight other districts of Uttar Pradesh.
The project has been started here with the joint cooperation of health and family welfare department and IMS BHU, he added. In Varanasi, this project is being run under Dr Dharmendra Jain, professor, department of cardiology, BHU, and principal investigator of the STEMI care project besides CMO Dr Sandeep Chowdhary.
“Electrocardiogram (ECG) and thrombolysis therapy have been arranged in the district hospital and health centres of Varanasi. This model will be started in Kanpur Nagar, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Rae Bareli, Sitapur, Jhansi, Aligarh and Prayagraj. This project will play an important role in reducing the death due to heart diseases,” Sharma added.
He gave this information while presiding over a statelevel meeting and training workshop on ICMR STEMI project held at BHU trauma centre auditorium. Sharma said the purpose of the training workshop was to give detailed information to the CMO, doctors and nurses for quick recovery in heart attack cases.
He said to start the project, district hospital and health centres will have to be strengthened. Availability of ECG, investigation, diagnosis, injection, thrombolysis therapy and other necessary resources will have to be ensured at the health centres.
It should be ensured that the heart attack patients coming to district hospitals and health centres get proper and complete treatment, Sharma added.
“Cardiologists in medical colleges should be connected through tele-medicine service 24x7. This should not cause any problem to any patient. Apart from this, it is also very important to train all doctors, sisters and nurses posted in medical colleges, district hospitals and health centres,” he said.
There should be no shortage of human resources in this project at any level, Sharma added. Meanwhile, BHU Registrar Prof VK Shukla said this project of BHU will be made completely successful in the entire state.
