Punjab rowers outshine others
GORAKHPUR : With the dazzling start of the national rowing championship at the water sports complex here, rowing made a debut in Khelo India University Games KIUG on Saturday. Rowers from different universities of Punjab dominated the 2000 metre heat phase under which a total of 30 matches were played on the very first day of the championship.
The first winner of each round made their place in the final round. However, others would get another chance to move in the on Sunday.
The final matches under the 2000 metre event would be played on Monday while qualifying round matches under the 5000 metre event would start from May 30.
In male single scull matches, Pradyuman Singh of Punjab University and in double scull Sukhdeep Singh and Aditya Singh made their entry in the final round. In quadruple heat double scull 2, rowers of Punjab University, Patiala, including Sangam, Gurusevak and Jaskaran entered the final round.
In lightweight quadruple 2, rowers of Punjab University, Chandigarh, namely Arjun, Gurpreet and Sudarshan secured their place in the final round

Ramgarh lake paves way for hosting int’l championship
Director of rowing championship under Khelo India University Games Sudheer Sharma was grateful to chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath for encouraging the hosting of international rowing championship in Gorakhpur.
While talking to mediapersons, Sharma said with successful organisation of national rowing championship under KIUG, the possibility of hosting Asian rowing championship at the water sports complex in Ramgarh lake in Gorakhpur had increased manifold. He said the water sports complex in Gorakhpur was equipped with latest facilities.
