35-YR-OLD MAN SHOT DEAD IN PRATAPGARH

PRAYAGRAJ: As many as six motorcycle-borne assailants shot dead a 35-year-old man standing at Mandhata crossroads and fled the spot In Pratapgarh district on Saturday morning. The attack is believed to be the fallout of the incident when the victim intervened in a fight two days back, police said.

The upset relatives of the deceased blocked the intersecti­on demanding the arrest of the accused. Police officials, after much effort, managed to pacify them by assuring quick action against the assailants and got them to lift the road blockade, they added.

As per reports, the victim Roshan Jama (35), a resident of Mishrapur village of Mandhata area of Pratapgarh, made a living by working as a truck driver in Gujarat. A week back, he had returned home. On Friday, one of his cousins Javed entered into an altercatio­n with a man following which Roshan intervened and stopped the fight from escalating further.

On Saturday morning, when Roshan was at Mandhata’s Taraul crossing, the assailants on two separate bikes, allegedly including the man with whom Roshan had an altercatio­n two days back, opened fire at him with a country made weapon from close range and managed to flee the spot. Roshan, who sustained a gunshot injury to his chest, was rushed to Mandhata primary health centre, where he was referred to the Pratapgarh medical college. However, he died on the way, police added.

Upset over the murder, Roshan’s kin blocked the Taraul intersecti­on in Madhata and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants.

ASP (East) Vidyasagar Mishra said that on the complaint of the victim’s brother Mohd Rustom, an FIR against half-a-dozen people including four named individual­s (Sahab Ali and Naeem of Shivra village as well as Mahfooz of Mishrapur and Ijhar of Manhu village) has been registered in connection with the murder.
