VARANASI: Temple town Varanasi has been ranked first in the health ranking dashboard of the state in April 2023 for performing well on 16 indicators, including HIV testing in pregnancy, home-based newborn care, current birth ratio and antenatal check-up.

Chief medical officer (CMO) Dr Sandeep Chaudhary has congratulated the health workers besides health and wellness centre of the district. He said for the last three months, Varanasi has remained at the second and third place in the health ranking dashboard. But this time Varanasi bagged the first place in the state.

“It shows quality medical and health services are being provided at all government hospitals, community and primary health centres, Ayushman Bharat health and wellness centre and sub-centres of the district,” he added.

They fared well under the supervision of Dr HC Maurya, additional chief medical officer (reproductive child health) and Santosh Kumar Singh, district program manager, National Health Mission.

“Accredited social health activist (ASHA) workers and auxiliary nursing midwives (ANMs) have played an important in improving the indicators. ASHA workers mobilise beneficiaries and bring them to the medical units. This ranking of Varanasi is an honour for frontline health workers,” the CMO said.

He asked all the health workers to maintain the quality of activities related to maternal, child and newborn health. “The department is constantly making efforts to provide medical and health benefits to the last person of the community,” he added.

The CMO said between March 21 and April 21, 2023, HIV testing was done in 100 percent pregnancies. “Home based newborn care has achieved 100 per cent coverage. In these indicators, the district has secured the first position in the entire state,” Dr Chaudhary said.

“Apart from this, the district has performed well in terms of current birth ratio, pre-natal check-up, availability of ASHA workers, delivery related services etc,”. At the district level, community health centre, Arajiline, has secured first (81%) position, Harhua second (79%) and Chiraigaon third (79%) in all indicators.

Arajiline block community health centre has remained at the first position in the dashboard for the last four months. Sevapuri is fourth, Pindra fifth, Badagaon sixth, Kashi Vidyapeeth seventh, Cholapur eighth and the district headquarters ninth.

The CMO further said now there will be more focus in the areas in which they lagged behind. For this, all program nodal officers, block program managers, block community process managers, data operators, ANMs and other health workers had been instructed to ensure 100% data of all indicators as soon as possible, he said.
