MEERUT: Stepping up the Rajput outreach from a key centre of “Kshatriya discontent”, chief minister Yogi Adityanath invoked Lord Ram and talked about development as he addressed rally in village Sisauli here on Thursday in the presence of the party’s Meerut candidate and Ramayan fame actor Arun Govil, who played the Thakur card on the occasion.

It was at Sisauli, a Rajput dominated village, that a mahapanchayat was convened on April 11 to give vent to “Kshatriya discontent” in the Lok Sabha election over poor representation of Thakurs in ticket distribution by the ruling BJP.

The rally in Sisauli is being seen as a exercise to placate the Rajputs and the Tyagi community.

Meerut goes to polls in the second phase of the Lok Sabha election on April 26 and this was Yogi Adityanath’s third rally in the constituency here during the current Lok Sabha election campaign, underlining the importance of the constituency and the Kshatriya factor.

Referring to the Surya Tilak of the Ram Lalla idol on Ram Navami

on Wednesday, the first after the consecration ceremony in Ayodhya on January 22, Yogi Adityanath said it was a moment of pride.

Appealing for votes for the party candidate, Yogi Adityanath said Govil, who played the role of Ram, did not know during his stint on the small screen that Ram Lalla would be enthroned in Ayodhya after 500 years.

He also said Govil’s win would be an advantage to Meerut.

If Arun Govil becomes the MP of Meerut, then by advertising for free, he will take Meerut ahead, he said.

In a bid to win over the Rajputs, Arun Govil said his wife is also from a Rajput family of Aligarh.

“She turns into a ‘Thakurain’ in anger but I placate my Thakur wife and can convince everyone else, too,” he said.
