DEHRADUN: Day ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, state Congress vice president Mathura Dutt Joshi expressed confidence of people choosing the party over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the Agnipath scheme will “prove to be Waterloo for the BJP” in the state.

Joshi said the people of the state are well aware of whether there has been development in the state in last five years. “The youth of the state have been agitating and struggling for jobs. There have been recruitment and paper leak scams. The law and order situation has worsened.

The state has been bogged down by various issues related to unemployment, hill migration, disasters and Agnipath schemes. Congress, like the arrogant BJP, will not talk that it will win by a margin of 25 lakhs. But people of the state will give a befitting reply to the BJP and ensure the victory of all five Congress candidates here.”

This was in response to state BJP election in-charge and party national general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam’s remarks that the enthusiasm among people shows that there will be a record voting and his party will win all five seats by a collective margin of over 25 lakh (2.5 million) votes. He said people of the hill state will vote for developed Uttarakhand.

In an informal conversation with the media at the party headquarters in Dehradun on Wednesday evening, Gautam said that the people of Devbhoomi are going to make record voting in the April 19 voting to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time.

“People will ensure our victory on all five seats because of the historic development and public welfare schemes taken up under the leadership of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami under the guidance of PM Modi”.

Under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he further said, BJP had built the state and worked for the development as per the wishes of the statehood agitators. “According to the vision of PM Modi, the present decade will be the decade of Uttarakhand. BJP has lived up to the trust of the people and with their blessings, we are going to win all the seats in the state with a total margin of more than 25 lakh (2.5 million) votes.”

“Our government led by CM Dhami has taken many historic, bold decisions which will give direction to other states as well. UCC law, strictest anti-copying laws, strict conversion laws have been introduced in the state. It is a matter of pride for the state that several states are adopting these initiatives. The government ensured corruption-free governance, gave 30% reservation to women in jobs, ensured tap water supply in most houses, and saved people’s lives with the Atal Ayushman card,” he said.

Gautam pointed out that when PM Modi talks about developed India, he also includes his vision of developed Uttarakhand in it. “PM Modi has himself said that whenever he talks about 400 plus seats, it also includes five seats of Uttarakhand. The kind of enthusiasm among the people and workers of the state says that more than 75% voting will be in our favour”.

Referring to the 1815 Battle of Waterloo, the Congress leader said unemployment and the Agnipath scheme will “prove to be Waterloo for the BJP” in the state.

“The BJP has given youth the job security in the army for just four years. This has created a lot resentment among the army aspirants in the state and they will definitely vote for Congress which has promised that it will scrap Agnipath scheme once elected to power.”
