Award­win­ning di­rec­tor Lewis Gil­bert dies aged 97

NEW DELHI: Bri­tish di­rec­tor Lewis Gil­bert, the man be­hind the award win­ning movie Al­fie, has died aged 97. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, he passed away on Fe­bru­ary 23. Af­ter ini­tially start­ing out as a child ac­tor, Gil­bert switched to di­rect­ing and worked for the Royal Air Force’s film unit on doc­u­men­taries, Hol­ly­wood Re­porter re­ported. He is best re­mem­bered for the James Bond movies You Only Live Twice, The Spy Who Loved Me, and Moon­raker. He was awarded the Com­man­der of the Bri­tish Em­pire award in 1997.
