Modern-day actors are known to go out of their way to ensure convincing portrayals of their characters. The same holds true for Varun Dhawan, who plays a tailor from the heartland of India in his next, Sui Dhaaga – Made in India.

“To ensure that he portrays his character, Mauji, convincingly, Varun ensured that he prepared well. Since Mauji is supposed to look well-versed with handloom, Varun decided to perfect the same and met real handloom workers to learn the art of dyeing fabrics,” says an insider, close to Sharat Katariya’s (of Dum Laga Ke Haisha fame; 2015) film.

Varun, on his part, feels that Sui Dhaaga has “enabled me to learn such new, amazing skills that I will always cherish”. He adds, “Mauji is an entrepreneur at heart and he passionately wants to realise his dreams. In order to become multi-talented, my character has to learn various aspects of weaving and handloom. To become like him, I had to learn the art of dyeing fabrics, which was really tough and needed a lot of patience.”
