‘New people come in and take over, but one should keep working hard’

-

Singer Shaan has revealed that the reason for his absence from the Hindi film music scene is the arrival of the younger generation in the industry, which has left fewer opportunities for senior artists like him.

Shaan, known for songs such as Chand Sifarish (Fanaa, 2005), Behti Hawa Sa Tha Woh (3 Idiots, 2007) and Jab Se Tere Naina (Saawariya, 2007), and Dus Bahane (Dus, 2005), says that not much working coming his way left him disheartened for a brief period. “From 2010 to 2013-14, I wasn’t able to understand what was happening... why I was not getting the work that I was getting earlier, what did I do wrong? I couldn’t find the answer, but I figured that it happens with everyone as new people come in and they take over,” shares the singer.

However, that is in the past, as the Bhool Ja singer adds, “Now, my belief in my own singing has grown. I feel I am a better singer today. I have worked on my shortcomings. I am working hard and proud of myself.”

The shift was certainly tough, but Shaan has come to terms with it, and is busy doing his own independent music, ad films and other projects. “With film songs, the A-league stuff is not happening. I am open to the idea of singing for newer production houses. Many advised me to not take this up and said it will affect your career and that I should be connecting to the top guys.”

The singer believes doing live concerts are the best way of connecting with the fans.

“Music as a industry is going through lot of changes. I don’t know how well paying it is to be a singer today. If you can entertain through live performances then sky is the limit as people enjoy it. People are enjoying it,” he adds.
