Angad Bedi hopes to make Lohri special for his wife and daughter
This is going to be a special Lohri for actor Angad Bedi, as this would be the first he’d celebrate with his newborn daughter, Mehr Dhupia Bedi. Also, the first he’d get to celebrate with actor Neha Dhupia as his wife. The two got married last year in May, after a much-talked about affair. In November, they were blessed with Mehr.
He intends to make it special for his family, and also keep the celebration “environment friendly”. He says, “I will try to make it as special as possible. I used to celebrate it with my mom, dad and sister. Now, I have two more family members, my wife and the li’l baby. All three of us will do a dinner, call a few friends over, and light a small bonfire.” He is in Mumbai because of work commitments, but he can’t stop thinking about the Lohri celebrations in the Capital.
“We used to have a big Lohri celebration in Delhi. My parents would sing Lohri songs. All our cousins and friends would be around... It has been different since I have moved to Mumbai. But it’s always nice to relive those memories. I would have loved to have my parents with us here. Had I not been working on Lohri, I’d have tried to be in Delhi with mine and Neha’s parents,” says Bedi, who is planning a trip home, soon.
Talking about his daughter, the Soorma (2018) actor says he would want his daughter to “emulate real life heroes” when she grows up. And he goes on to talk about how women have been in the vanguard in all fields.
“It (2018) was the year of women. Hopefully, years coming forward would be, too. We have to prioritise women and give them immense love and affection. There are very rare times when a Sindhu [PV Sindhu], or a Harmanpreet Kaur, or a Sania Mirza, or a Mary Kom come up,” says Bedi, son of former Indian cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi.
And besides that, another thing he hopes for his daughter to do is to explore some must-visit places in the city of his birth, Delhi. He’d like her to visit, “Lodi Garden and Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium for sure, because, my father used to take me there”.
He says, “I have fond memories of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Pandara Road... These are the places I’d like to explore with Mehr and my wife, as she’s from Delhi, too,” adds, “I love the Delhi winters, it’s a great time to be in there. Delhi has become huge (sic).”
