Swara stops hacking attempt, says it’s common

Soon after Swara Bhasker realised that someone was trying to hack into her Twitter account, she took to social media to spread a word of caution. She shared a screenshot of how she got as many as six messages asking to reset her password. “Just another bunch of ‘someone- trying-tohack-your-account alerts’ ! Just another day in life! #realitybites #GetALifeAssh ***s #GetAJob a real one!,” she wrote. Fortunately though, the hacker was not successful. “I got random notifications of repeated attempts of someone trying to log in into my [Twitter] account. Luckily, we caught it in the nick of time and were able to secure my account. Since my Twitter is slightly controversial and I take strong political and social positions, there is always the threat of [it] being hacked. And the multiple fake news stories about me circulating on Twitter just add to the threat,” says the Veere Di Wedding (2018) actor.

Apart from hackers, troll army is another facet of Twitter, which Swara has seemingly gotten used to. Asked if she feels the medium is being misused, she says, “Like any other medium, it comes with its good and bad. We must use it for good, and continue to challenge the bad, especially when it comes to cyber bullying and cyber trolling.”

Many feel that sensitisation and proper education can help social media users understand how to make the most of the platform in a positive way. Swara agrees, “Yes, absolutely. Also, awareness of which forces are participating in paid trolling and awareness about context will help, especially with the rise of fake news and WhatsApp rumours on the internet.”
