Reel to real: Covid-19 vaccination drive gets the millennial push

- Aprajita Sharad

Now that the Covid vaccination drives for youngsters have begun across India, the #lit minds have found new ways to spread awareness — through reels, videos and raps — encouraging people to take the jab! “While battling Covid, I realised that I myself didn’t know many recovery tips and facts. That’s when I decided that post recovery, I’ll encourage others to get vaccinated,” says Bhavya Sood, a Delhi University (DU) student, who has been making fun reels on the need to get vaccinated. “We’re all in this together, this is me playing my part!” she adds. And creating rap songs around vaccination drive is DU’S Vishal Singh Rathor, who says, “I made a Co-win rap to spread positivity and to encourage others to get vaccinated.”

Some from the cool Gen Z are even posting vaccination stories on the song, Bajre da Sitta. “Being woke is not limited to posting reels that make you laugh, it’s also about using social media to encourage positive actions,” says Ritesh Bhat, a student at Pune Institute Of Computer Technology, adding, “Me and my friends who’ve got the shot are using social media to spread the message to #Notbelatevaccinate.”

A #vaccinationchallenge too, is motivating millennials. Aniket Sanjeev Singh, from Mumbai University, says, “In these difficult times I started #vaccinationchallenge and decided to create awareness among youth.”
