The tunes of Rajasthani folk music will be in spotlight on the opening day of the 75th edition of Festival de Cannes, with folk singer Mame Khan set for a special performance. Khan will also be walking the red carpet at the opening ceremony of the film festival as part of the Indian delegation with Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur. “I am very excited to represent our country at the Cannes Film Festival, where India is also the country of honour... Bas music hoga, masti hogi aur sabko proud karenge,” shares Khan, who admits feeling nervous about it, too.

The singer, who has chosen to wear an ethic attire for his outing at the red carpet, continues, “I hail from a community of musicians, with the responsibility to take forward the legacy of my family — Manganiyar folk music. Mujhe music viraasat mein mili hai. I am probably the first one from my community to walk the red carpet internationally. And this has become possible only because of music. That is why I want to represent Rajasthani folk music at the global film festival.”

For his performance at the Cannes Film Fest, which will begin from May 17, he has curated a playlist high on rustic folk tunes. Starting the performance with Kesariya Balam, he will also sing Baware, Laal Peeli Ankhiyan, Chaudhary, and Chhaap Tilak.

“I will start with Rajasthan’s special welcome song, and will also include some Bollywood numbers in the list... I am really looking forward to connecting with new people,” says Khan, who has experimented with music over the years.

It was in 1999 when he first performed in France, and now he is going back to the country after 23 years. “That was my first show abroad, and now this is my first performance at Cannes. That’s what makes this visit really different and special,” he says, revealing that only six people from the eightpiece band will be travelling for the event.

Singer Neha Kakkar’s husband and Punjabi singer Rohanpreet Singh’s personal belongings, including a diamond ring and cash, were stolen from a hotel in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, said a police official on Saturday. Singh was staying in a hotel at the hill station, when his diamond ring, iPhone and other expensive belongings were stolen.

Kakkar and Singh had recently shared a video on their Instagram accounts, in which they were seen enjoying coffee in bed in a hotel room, while grooving to their new song La La La. Kakkar captioned the post: “This is called a La La La Morning!!” The couple released the music video, which is their joint collaboration, on May 8.

Fans of KGF might have to wait for its third part a little longer. Just a day after the film’s producer Vijay Kirgandur got fans’ hopes up, the series’ executive producer Karthik Gowda has taken a U-turn on the development. In a statement issued on social media on behalf of the production house, he said that they have no plans to start KGF: Chapter 3 “anytime soon”. KGF: Chapter 1 (2018) and Chapter 2 both starred actor Yash in the lead.

On Saturday, Gowda wrote on Twitter, “The news doing the rounds are all speculation. With a lot of exciting projects ahead of us, we @hombalefilms will not be starting #KGF3 anytime soon. We will let you know with a bang when we start the work towards it.”

For weeks, there were speculations that work on KGF: Chapter 3 has apparently begun. Yash added fuel to fire when he said in an interaction that he had discussed some scenes from the film with director Prasanth Neel. Kiragandur even gave a timeline for the film’s release, saying they hoped to begin shooting later this year.

However, Gowda’s clarification has seemingly refuted these speculations.
