LUCKNOW: Sahara chief Subrata Roy was on Monday taken by road to New Delhi for production before the Supreme Court by 2pm on Tuesday.

Roy, who was in three- day police custody at the forest department’s VVIP guesthouse at the Kukrail picnic spot since Friday evening, was whisked away in an SUV after the police helped him avoid the media by using a gate that opens into the forest area.

“Around 3pm, the police team, along with Roy, left the guesthouse, dodging media at the main gate,” said a source. The police vehicles disappeared before media persons reached the back gate. The luxury vehicles were followed by Inspector of Mahanagar police station, Nagendra Chaubey, who claimed Roy was still inside.

The police took the 540-kilometre route to Delhi via Kanpur and Agra. “Roy has been sent to Delhi under tight security. Ghazipur officer Vishal Pandey is heading the police team,” said ASP, transGomti, Habibul Hasan. He said the CO was accompanied by Gomti Nagar police station inspector Ajit Singh Chauhan, who was entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring Roy’s presence in the apex court by the Lucknow chief judicial magistrate’s court.

Roy surrendered to the police on February 28. The arrest order was issued on February 26 for his failure to appear before the court in a contempt case arising out of non-refund of ` 20,000 crore to investors by two of his companies.
