NEW DELHI: The police on Monday rescued a two-year-old girl who was kidnapped from outside her home in northeast Delhi’s Sonia Vihar two days ago from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

She was rescued from a house in Brij Ghat near Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, said VV Chaudhary, additional CP (northeast). Two persons, identified as Geeta and Santosh, were arrested.

However, the alleged mastermind of the kidnapping, Raju alias Totla, the girl’s neighbour, is still on the run. Police said the girl’s mother had insulted Raju during a quarrel over a minor issue a few days ago and he had vowed to take revenge.

On Saturday morning, Chaudhary said, the girl was playing outside her house in Sonia Vihar when she went missing. Her parents searched the locality and when they could not find her, approached the police. A case of kidnapping was filed at the Khajoori Khas police station.

During investigation, the police teams conducted a door-to-door search but the girl could not be traced. “We found that Raju, who lived in a rented room in the same building as the girl, was missing since Saturday. The girl’s family told us that Raju had a fight with her mother some days ago and had threatened to avenge his insult,” added Chaudhary.

Further investigation led them to the house, owned by Santosh, in Brij Ghat. “The girl was rescued and Geeta, who was with the girl, was arrested. Her interrogation led to Santosh,” said Chaudhary.
