GURGAON: The body of 38-yearold Shweta Bindra, who was stabbed to death by her husband on Sunday, was handed over to her family after a postmortem on Monday. The victim’s family reached Gurgaon late Sunday night from Nahan in Himachal Pradesh.

The accused, 44- year- old Rajneesh K Singh, was produced in a city court on Monday and remanded to three-day police custody.

The IIM Ahmedabad alumnus and vice-president of Gurgaonbased Shared Reach Mobility Services had stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife at least 10 times in his rented apartment after an alleged fight.

According to people close to the family, the couple had an strained relationship with frequent fights.

The victim’s family has also sought custody of the two kids who were living with the couple (the third lives with a relative), saying they are not safe with Rajneesh’s mother, who they have accused of foul play in the incident.

They said they will fight for justice and get the children their share in the paternal property for a secure future.

“Rajneesh was inconsistent career-wise. He was frustrated due to his financial crisis too. Despite being an IIM graduate, he was a failure in life and made my sister a victim of his frustration. My sister has always had a steady income. Earlier she took home tuitions and in January she started her daycare,” said Vishal Bindra, the victim’s brother.

Shweta ran a daycare facility in DLF City Phase 4. She also used to install kiosks during festivals.

According to retired bank- er Man Mohan Singh, the deceased’s father, the couple was happy before they went to Bahrain for eight months in 2008.

“After that I never heard that my daughter was happy. When we last spoke to her on February 19, she said she will take the responsibility of the house and look after the children on her own. Rajneesh had changed 22 jobs in eight years.”

Vishal added Rajneesh had brutally assaulted his sister earlier too, but he never thought he could kill her.

“Though he seems simple and docile, he is short-tempered and frustrated.”

“On Sunday morning, Rajneesh had plans to visit his mother with Shweta and the kids. When she refused, it led to a fight. In a fit of rage, he stabbed her to death,” said Vivek Sharma, joint commissioner (crime).

Dr Deepak Mathur, forensic expert at the Civil Hospital in Gurgaon, conducted the postmortem.

“The deceased died due to shock, haemorrhage and excessive bleeding from abdominal wounds. Five major wounds were deep enough to cause death and each wound was 3.5cm due to the deep wound”.

The accused claims to have audio clips and pictures to substantiate his story about his wife’s alleged infidelity.

Rajneesh had also hired a detective, who has been asked to participate in the ongoing investigation.

“Whatever the circumstances, there is no justification for such an act. There are laws to get separated. Ending a life is not an act that befits an educated person,” Sharma said.

Shweta Bindra was a graduate from Himachal Pradesh and had studied her MBA from Delhi through correspondence.
