›AS PER A SURVEY BY CNN-IBN, BJP AND AAP ARE EXPECTED TO WIN 2-4 SEATS EACH IN DELHI IN LOK SABHA POLLS.
Close contest between two parties on cards after strong showing in assembly elections; Cong may lose footing
The Aam Aadmi Party is likely to give stiff competition to the BJP in Delhi in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls even though its image has received a slight dent after Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation last month.
A survey conducted by CNNIBN and Lokniti has projected that AAP and BJP may get two to four seats in the capital while the Congress may end up with a single seat if the LS polls were held today.
However, there may be a drop of 7% in the AAP’s vote share in the capital since January while the BJP is likely to get 6% more votes. The survey recorded the response of 9,104 voters across 512 locations in 138 Parliamentary constituencies.
BJP mascot Narendra Modi may would outdo Kejriwal in the PM race as the number of people preferring him for the post in Delhi increased from 32% in Janaury to 37% in February. The number of Kejriwal loyalists decreased from 34% to 26%, the survey says.
Keriwal’s loss may make Rahul Gandhi’s position slightly better. Only 8% people surveyed in Delhi wanted the Gandhi scion as the PM in January but 15% voted for him in February.
The Jan Lokpal issue was apparently a let-down for Delhi voters. About 46% people in the upper and middle classes said Kejriwal’s decision to quit was wrong. In the low income group class, 38% people felt the same though an equal number said his resignation was a right step as he had come to power on an anti-corruption plank.
Fifty per cent people surveyed felt that Kejriwal should not have staged a dharna outside Rail Bhawan though 68% AAP supporters thought it was inappropriate. A good thing for Kejriwal is that 47% respondents felt corruption had declined during his tenure as the chief minister though 40% believed it remained unchanged. About 82% of 501 respondents support- ed his populist measures such as free water and subsidised power. A whopping 94% in the lower class felt likewise. MAHARASHTRA
In Maharashtra, the AAP’s vote share is likely to remain the same at 5% as projected in January by CNN IBN Poll Tracker. It projects that the CongNCP alliance may secure 16 to 22 seats in the state. About 45% respondents said they were satisfied with performance of the state government though half of those surveyed felt otherwise. Only 25% respondents wanted UPA to get another chance to govern though Modi’s influence seemed to be soaring. In January, 31% prefered Modi as the PM. This number went up to 40% last month.
