An application was moved before the court of the chief judicial magistrate of Agra against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and four others in connection with the suicide of farmer Gajendra Singh at an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rally on April 22.

The court on Tuesday asked the New Agra police to submit a report in the matter and fixed May 11 as the next date of hearing for the case.

Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Rajasthan, hanged himself from a tree in front of thousands of people at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

The application has been moved under section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code by Manoj Yadav, a resident of Kamla Nagar locality of Agra. Section 156 (3) allows a magistrate to order registration of a criminal offence and/or to direct the officer in-charge of the police station concerned to hold a proper investiga- tion into a case.

The complainant alleged that Gajendra Singh had suffered crop damage due to rain and hailstorm and took his own life after hearing the instigating speeches by Arvind Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh, Manish Sisodia, Ashutosh and Kumar Vishwas, who have been impleaded as opposite parties.

Yadav has stated that it was highly insensitive on part of senior AAP leaders to continue their speeches without making any effort to prevent the incident and that feelings of several AAP supporters like him have been hurt because of this callous approach.

The complainant also said in the petition that he had posted the complaint to New Agra police through registered post on April 30, but no action was taken. He has demanded that a case be registered against the Aam Aadmi Party leaders named in the petition and an investigation launched by the police.

The court has sought a report from the police.

A 42-year-old property dealer was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside his house in outer Delhi’s Prashant Vihar on Tuesday morning. Police sources said that while initial investigation suggests murder, family members of the victim have also been detained.

According to police officials, the victim, Naresh Saini was found dead in his balcony with wounds on his chest. Police sources said that the incident came to light around 8am on Tuesday after Saini’s nephew made a PCR call, saying that his uncle was dead.

A senior police official said that while several teams of police officials were rushed to the spot, the family members insisted that Saini had collapsed in the balcony.

The family said that Saini had recently had a liposuction surgery at a private hospital. They alleged negligence during the surgery which resulted in his death. Family members also said
