More students get a perfect 10 in Class X exams
CBSE RESULTS Girls score better than boys in the examination, like every year
Days after the Central Board of Secondary Examination’s (CBSE) class 12 results saw an increase in the number of students scoring above 90% in higher secondary school examinations conducted by the board, the trend reflected in class 10 results declared on Thursday, May 28.
Although the pass-percentage saw a slight drop of 1.55 percentage points, the number of students scoring a perfect 10 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) increased.
The overall pass-percentage this year was 97.32% compared to 98.87% in 2014. The trend was seen in Delhi too, where pass-percentage fell by 2 percentage points—from 98.31% in 2014 to 96.29% this year.
Like every year, more girls passed and scored higher than boys—97.82% girls who appeared for the examination passed com- pared to 96.98% boys. Across India, 94,474 students scored a perfect 10 CGPA, against 76,900 in 2014.
Region-wise, Chandigarh had the highest number (15,479) of 10-pointers, followed by Chennai (15,471). Although, Delhi saw a fall in pass- percentage, 8,026 students in the region scored perfect CGPAs.
A perfect CGPA indicates a score of 91-100% in the five subjects that the student appeared for. “This time the number of students scoring CGPA of 10 has increased slightly and it is a good indicator,” Ashok K Pandey, principal Ahlcon International School in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area, said. His school saw the number of students scoring perfect CGPA by 20%.
More students from private schools scored perfect CGPAs than from gover nment and gover nment- aided schools. Private schools were followed by Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
The CBSE made the all-India class 10 examinations optional three years ago and introduced the CGPA system. It reflects the combination of academic and co-curricular performance.
With both options available, majority of students opt for evaluation through the in-house continuous and comprehensive evaluation and very few sit for board exams.
This year 2,65,064 students in Delhi cleared the examination against 2,75,268 students registered. Over 13 lakh students appeared for the examination this year.
