NEW DELHI: The Delhi government has asked app-based cab services such as Ola and Uber to provide details drivers registered with them and the registration number of their taxis.

The transport department has given such app-based services seven days to furnish all relevant data.

“These taxi operators have been informed by the transport department that their fresh applications for licensing will only be considered after they furnish affidavits agreeing to standard and stringent safety norms, particularly for women passengers,” he added.

The Delhi government, after failing to block the app-based cab services in the city, had sought the Centre’s help in tracking and blocking the IP addresses of such companies so that their mobile applications became dys- functional.

The central gover nment recently banned the IP address of such companies but that proved to be ineffective.

The government had also written to these companies to stop operation with immediate effect and threatened to not consider their applications for fresh licenses otherwise. “We are not against app-based cab services. But at the same time, we cannot compromise with the security of residents. We want them to follow guidelines, get their drivers verified and install GPS tracking systems,” the official added.
