The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG), which is scheduled to go to polls next year, is going to focus on big ticket infrastructure projects.

This was reflected in the civic body’s budget, that was passed on Friday with a voice vote.

In the budget the civic body has made a provision of ` 200 crore for a flyover at Sohna Chowk, ` 60 crore has been earmarked for a proposed medical college in the city.

To make interaction with MCG seamless, ` 20 crore has been provisioned for developing the digital infrastructure of the municipal body.

The budget envisions an income of ` 1,788 crore, and expenditure of ` 1,708 crore for the year 2015- 16. It also has a provision of ` 50 crore for carrying out development in private colonies.

Senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra said that the MCG will spend ` 750 crore on developmental projects.

“This is the last year of our tenure and we want to improve and create maximum number of infrastructure facilities in Gurgaon,” he said. To empower the counsellors, the budget has a provision of spending ` 1 crore for every ward which will be guided by the elected representative.

The provision for a medical college was made in the budget after the Gurgaon deputy commissioner TL Satyaprakash expressed his interest, on behalf of the administration, to set up a medical college under the aegis of Sheetla Mata Shrine Board.

The cost for setting up a medical college has been worked out to ` 350 crore.

The contribution by MCG and shrine board will add ` 100 crore to the government’s kitty which is looking for a site to set up this important health care institution.

The ball is now in the state government’s court as it will ultimately take a decision.

Earlier on Friday, MCG joint commissioner YS Gupta tabled the budget in the house meeting. The resolution would now be sent to Chandigarh for approval.

MCG councillor Nisha Singh who has been opposing the budget because of lack of financial details said that she had not attended the house meeting.
