FOUR SHIV SENA MEMBERS HELD FOR DISRUPTING PAKISTANI PLAY

GURGAON: The Gurgaon police on Sunday arrested four members of the Shiva Sena for disrupting a play performed by a Pakistani troupe in the city on Saturday evening.

The accused identified as Ajay, Gautam, Sumit and Jitu were booked for criminal trespass and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The troupe called Mass Group Foundation had come from Lahore to Gurgaon to stage a play named Baanjh about the situation at Siachen Glacier on Saturday.

Half an hour into the show, four men identifyin­g themselves as Shiv Sainiks went on stage and started shouting slogans.

“They displaced the Pakistani flag and threw it on the ground, and shouted slogans such as Pakistan Murdabaad, Hindustan Zindabad and Jai Shri Ram,” said an eyewitness at the HUDA open air amphitheat­re in Sector 29.

The police rushed to the spot as soon as they got informatio­n about the disruption. The show resumed after some time.

Police said Satbir Rohilla, public relations officer of the municipal corporatio­n of Gurgaon, lodged a complaint on Sunday morning after which the four men were arrested.

The accused are all around 25 years old and live near Jacobpura in Gurgaon.

“Acting on a complaint by the PRO of the municipal corporatio­n regarding criminal trespass by a group of people in a cultural programme organised by the MCG involving artists from Pakistan on Saturday evening, Gurgaon police registered a FIR against four men on Sunday. Soon after, the persons were arrested,” said deputy commission­er of police (east), Deepak Saharan.

The police said no informatio­n was given or permission was sought from the police for the play.

The four persons were booked under sections 457 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
