I have a bachelor’s degree in English literature but I am not sure if I should go for an MA or MBA. Though I am interested in going for an MBA, I won’t be able to afford the fees. Please help me with the list of colleges I can join. — Jaspreet Kaur

After graduation, your choice of a course for further study should be based on the career you wish to pursue, rather than on costs as today loans are easily available for study programmes.

As far as a high fees are concerned, though not all MBA institutes charge high fees, it must be understood that fees for most professional courses, including MBAs are normally higher than regular degree college fees, to cover costs of faculty and campus infrastructure.

Further, as these courses train you with the skills which will enable you to get a good job, it is assumed that after a course such as the MBA, students would earn enough to be able to recover the cost of the course, should the need arise.

When choosing between MA and MBA or any other course, think about the kind of work you would like to do.

After pursuing a degree in English, you can choose to go into a variety of fields related to your subject, particularly in the area of communications depending upon your interest, ability and personality. These include fields like mass communication (advertising, public relations, journalism, editing, film making and production), creative writing, web content writing, teaching, publishing, sales and marketing, and others.

English literature students are typically in demand for their writing and reading skills, and can opt for a variety of careers in the government, business, research, and education as well as in the cultural, entertainment, and communications industries.
