Cong hails action on border but asks PM why he doesn’t raise issue globally
NEW DELHI The Congress lauded the army on Tuesday for destroying Pakistani posts in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, the party asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he was not raising the issue of rise in infiltration from across the border at the international fora.
The opposition party also asked the government what it was doing about destroying terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) from where militants are being pushed into India. “We salute the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Army,” Congress’ chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, asking why international pressure was not being exerted on the neighbouring country.
He said infiltration of militants from Pakistan has increased and it has been admitted by the army. “What is the NDA government doing? Every day Pakistan is pushing terrorists into India and the Indian Army is fighting them,” he said. “Where is the loud Modi government? When will it stop infiltration from Pakistan?”
Meanwhile, the Congress also backed the army chief’s move to honour a major who had allegedly tied a Kashmiri man to a jeep to use him as a human shield.
“It is only the army chief' s prerogative to award commendation card to jawans and officers as per the operational requirement. There is absolutely no question of criticising the army chief's decision,” Surjewala said.
The party’s support came after its senior leader and Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh hailed the move.
