Choose course over college, say experts

ADMISSIONS DU officials answer queries of candidates at second Open Day event

-

NEWDELHI:The second day of Delhi University’s ‘Open Day’ event on Tuesday saw hundreds of candidates and their parents flocking to North Campus to have their queries answered. Open Day is an opento-all event that is organised by Delhi University every year before the admission cycle starts to help applicants and their guardians know the admission procedure and clear doubts.

Hindustan Times takes a look at some important questions asked on Tuesday.

Should I give preference to my desired college or desired course?

Students should choose the right course more than the college. Some students give up on the course they want to pursue because they do not get it in a college of their liking. The course which you choose is what determines your future. So you should ensure you pick the right course. This is also why you mark the course you want to pursue in the application form and not the college you want to attend.

What about students with a gap year?

There is no discrimination against students who have taken a year off after Class 12. They will have to submit an undertaking, explaining what they did in the one year though. If they were pursuing another course, then they will have to ensure that their previous admission has been cancelled .

What if I apply for ECA, but qualify for the first cutoff in general category?

The student should then take admission based on the first cutoff results in the available college. Then he/she should also wait for the ECA results, which takes time. After the final round of ECA trials, you will be given marks which will be added to your ‘best four’ score. You can then use this to get admission in a different course or college.

Can I apply for multiple courses?

There is no restriction on the number of courses one can apply for. However, one cannot take admission for more than one course at DU. You may pursue a part time diploma course or an add-on or a certificate course only. If a student is found to be enrolled in multiple courses, we will recall his/her degree.
