Minister inspects treatment plant
Delhi water minister Rajendra Gautam on Saturday visited the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) water treatment plant at Sonia Vihar.
The Sonia Vihar water treatment plant has a total capacity to treat 141 million gallons per day and caters to residents of areas around Shashtri Park, Tahirpur and South Delhi.
“Everything is fine it seems. However, I have given strict instructions to maintain equitable supply in all areas. There have been allegations that water gets diverted to one area and other remains dry. I told them, ‘Don’t divert everything to South Delhi,” Gautam told HT, adding that strict instructions have been given against discrimination in terms of water supply.
Earlier on Friday, the minister along with senior jal board officials, met 800-odd meter readers, metre inspectors and other staff of the revenue wing.
“The meeting was aimed at improving the productivity and enhancing the work efficiency of DJB’s employees. These employees are the contact point of consumers thereby bridging the gap between the consumers and the entity. Being the ones to deal with the consumers frequently and directly, they were advised to cater to the consumer queries regarding billing and the ongoing schemes of DJB for smooth and transparent functioning of the entity,” a release stated.
“I told them any kind of malpractice related to the water bill will not be tolerated and strong action will be taken,” the water minister said.
