GURGAON: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly abducted from near MG Road Metro station in Gurgaon, gang-raped by three men in a car and dumped at Greater Noida after six hours on Tuesday morning.

A resident of Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, the woman was staying with relatives at a village in Haryana’s Nuh for the past few days. She was looking for a job in Sohna and Gurgaon, and her search took her to MG Road on Monday.

She came to Gurgaon from Sohna around 4pm in an autorickshaw and around 8.30pm she was pulled into a sedan, which is probably a cab.

Police said there were three men in the car and they took turns to assault her for six hours, driving through Gurgaon, Faridabad, New Delhi, Noida and Greater Noida.

They threw her out in a dark, secluded spot near Yatharth hospital in Greater Noida before 3am. Police and residents spotted her crying in front of the hospital.

“Some beer bottles were found at the spot, which indicates the accused persons were inebriated at the time,” a senior Greater Noida police officer told PTI.

The woman said in her statement that her assailants forced her to drink alcohol.

The incident underscored the lack of safety for women in the national capital and its surrounding areas, and poor police patrolling at night in Gurgaon and Noida.

India enacted stringent laws against sexual offenders after the fatal gang rape of a paramedical student in New Delhi in a bus in December 2012. But these measures failed to decrease crimes against women.

A woman was allegedly abducted and gang-raped in Gurgaon’s Manesar area on May 29. The rapists killed her ninemonth-old baby to smother her cries. She too was left on the roadside after about four hours of assault.

Police said Monday night’s victim was making confused and shifty statements, but that could be the effects of trauma and liquor forced down her throat.

Her statement was recorded at Sector 29 police station in Gurgaon in front of an advocate on Tuesday. Her medical examination was conducted too.

It was decided that Noida police will register a case of gang-rape and investigate the case.

Police said the woman was taken from Gurgaon to Faridabad toll plaza, where she fought to free herself. The accused then thrashed and raped her, and moved towards Delhi, and then turned towards Noida and Greater Noida.

CCTV camera footage from MG road and Faridabad toll plazas were collected to identify the culprits. The role of the autorickshaw driver is also being probed as he too is visible on the surveillance video.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said: “Noida police have taken a very proactive approach in helping the victim and in investigating the matter. We will work in tandem to probe the matter and arrest the accused.”

However, Gurgaon police ruled out the abduction.

“It was found that the victim was not taken forcibly by the accused and as such the case of rape has been registered in Greater Noida where the crime took place. We will assist Noida police in investigating the matter and help nab the culprits,” said Sumit Kuhar, DCP (Crime), Gurgaon.
