GURGAON: The gang rape of a 35-year-old woman in a moving car on Monday night has shaken Gurgaon once again. However, rape, molestation and harassment seem to have become routine in the city, which is home to several MNCs and IT firms.

Every other day a case more gruesome than the previous one is reported — sometimes the victim is a mother, in other cases, the survivors are mere toddlers.

While the Gurgaon Police have solved many cases, several victims await justice.

Though the police arrested all three accused in the Manesar gang rape case that reportedly happened on May 29 within two weeks, held two people for the rape of a 5-year-old and a 7-yearold on Monday and Sunday, respectively, there remain many incidents which are widely reported and then forgotten within no time.

One such incident that hit the headline in June is still to see any arrests. Despite the fact that the 20-year-old woman, who was allegedly gang-raped multiple times at her marital home Sohna for over one year, identified the accused, no arrests have been made. The perpetrators reportedly made videos of the rape and threatened to leak it if the victim informed anyone.

In May, a 26-year-old woman was gang-raped in a moving car by three people along the Gurgaon-Delhi border. She was abducted from outside her house in sector 17 and dumped in Delhi.

To probe the gang rape, a special investigation team was formed, CCTV footages were scanned, raids were conducted but the criminals remain at large.

In April, a 20-year-old mentally challenged girl was found by the Gurgaon Police near a school in sector 46. The woman, who didn’t remember her home, had alleged that she was abducted by a few people on a bike and raped in DLF phase 2. The SIT formed to investigate the case managed to locate her address, but did not get any headway about the accused.

Another incident which gained media attention was the gang rape of two women at gunpoint in Pataudi reportedly in front of their husbands on January 29 by a gang of eight dacoits. The SIT in this case too is clueless about the accused.

Gurgaon DCP (crime) Sumit Kuhar said that the police have been proactive and have solved many cases within days.

“The police are working to arrest the accused,” Kuhar said.
