NEW DELHI A 35-year-old woman was murdered and her semi-clad body dumped at the Bhalswa landfill site on Saturday.

The absence of clothes from the woman’s body has aroused suspicion that the victim could have been raped before being killed. However, Vijayanta Arya, additional DCP (northwest), said the police were awaiting the autopsy report before they could be sure about the possibility of a sexual assault.

The, police said, lived in Bengali Colony, close to the landfill site, and had three children. Her husband had died a few years ago. She would work as a garbage collector to provide for her family.

According to the police, she left her home for work around 3pm on Saturday, but failed to return home later. Her daughter began searching for her around 8.30 pm.

The woman’s bleeding body was soon spotted dumped at the garbage dumping site. There were multiple blunt injuries on the body, like those caused by stones or sticks.

The woman was rushed to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. A murder case in his connection has been registered and investigations have been launched.

“We have not learnt of any personal enmity involving the woman or her family, but we are questioning people known to her to get any possible hints,” said the additional DCP.

Investigators said they are also speaking to local residents in the hope of finding any person who may have seen the woman with the killer. CCTV footage of the routes the woman may have taken prior to her death have not helped investigators so far.

THE WOMAN WORKED AS A RAGPICKER AT THE DUMPYARD. SHE WAS SPOTTED LYING IN A POOL OF BLOOD AT THE DUMP SITE AND WAS LATER DECLARED DEAD
