NEWDELHI: A hit-and-run involving a cab and a security staff outside Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday evening led the Central Industry Security Force (CISF) mobilise its Quick Reaction Team.

The driver of the cab was chased and stopped before it could escape the airport area. The incident took place at 4:10 pm.

“The QRT flashed a message on wireless about a rogue white cab, which sped away from departure lane carrying a Raxa security staff on its bonnet. Immediately, the exit point barrier staff (exit naka) was directed to block the vehicle movement as per the standard operating procedure,” said an official of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The official explained that the accused, who was driving a Swift Dzire car, hit the Raxa staff near departure lane 2, opposite departure gate number 7. Raxa is a private security agency that manages traffic movement outside the terminals, especially the commercial vehicles.

“The Raxa staff had flagged down the car as it was taking passengers illegally. But, the driver, instead of slowing down, sped and hit the security staff. With the staffer still on his car bonnet, the cabbie rushed towards the exit. However, he was stopped and brought back to the departure forecourt. The police was informed,” the official said.

CISF’s QRT chased the taxi and the taxi driver was apprehended before end point of departure flyover, the CISF official said. The Raxa staff suffered no major injury.

“We are collecting CCTV footage and appropriate action will be taken against the driver for endangering the life of security staff,” said a senior police officer.
