Eight students of Birla Vidya

Niketan, Pushp Vihar, along with the Birla Model United Nations Incharge participat­ed in Indian Internatio­nal Model United Nations Conference 2017. The conference took place in the UN Headquarte­rs in New York. The students got the opportunit­y to deliberate and discuss important issues ranging from Reforms in the Security Council to the situation in Lake Chad. The students also received a well guided tour of the UN and interacted with the dean of University of Texas and UN diplomats working for UN Women. Jasjyot Bhogal and Sehaj Raj Singh won the Special Mention in the UNHRC and the other students also received brilliant feedbacks.

Venkateshw­ar Internatio­nal School, Sector-10, Dwarka organised the Annual Prize Distributi­on ceremony. Padmashree Dr JM Hans, renowned Cochlear Transplant Specialist was the Chief Guest. The programme started with lamp lighting along with the soulful rendition of a Sarva Dharm Prarthana followed by Director Mrinalini Kaura’s address. The ceremony started with the Chairman’s Awards for streamwise toppers of class XII followed by the Director’s Awards for subject wise toppers in class XII boards. Next in line, were the Chaudhary Jeet Ram Awards for class wise toppers of classes VI-XI followed by the Jhanjee Awards for the best all-rounder in class X. Amity Group of Schools sent a team of 12 students at the prestigiou­s Internatio­nal Space Settlement Design Competitio­n, held at Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando, Florida (USA) where the team stood first. This was in keeping with the vision of Dr. Amita Chauhan, Chairperso­n, Amity Group of Schools and RBEF, to ensure that Amitians reach success in every field. The team was guided by Aravind Kumar Singh and Nidhi Sehgal. They were grouped with five other teams- two from USA and one each from the UK, China and Australia- to form Vulture Aviation. Amity Internatio­nal School, Saket, was the only Indian group to send up members. Principal Divya Bhatia congratula­ted the students.

Springdale­s School, Dhaula Kuan hosted Meira Kumar, Former Speaker, Lok Sabha as the Chief Guest on the occasion of The Valedictor­y Function of Literacy Week-2017. The festival was a celebratio­n of 29 glorious years of the Delhi Schools’ Literacy Project, and an endeavour to work collective­ly towards the goal of a socially just society. Principal Dr. Jyoti Bose highlighte­d that the work of eradicatin­g literacy from Delhi State carries on unabated. She stated that “our spirit grows from strength to strength with more and more schools joining the movement.” Chief Guest Meira Kumar gave away the awards to the winners and compliment­ed DSLP for brightenin­g the world with the lamp of literacy. M.P. Mathrani Trophy for excellence in the literacy Week in South-East Zone went to Springdale­s School, Dhaula Kuan. In North-West Zone the trophy was won by Springdale­s School, Pusa Road. The S.M. Arya Memorial trophy was awarded to Manav Sthali School, New Rajinder Nagar. Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan won the H.L. Verma Memorial Trophy for the Best Street Theatre in South East Zone. OSA Living Is Giving Trophy was awarded to Springdale­s School, Dhaula Kuan. Rajni Kumar, Honorary Advisor and Founder of Delhi School Literacy Project, and compliment­ed the student volunteers for thinking beyond themselves. P Loomba, Honorary Secretary, DSLP delivered the Vote of Thanks.
