BJP to approach Centre after acrimonious meeting with CM
STALEMATE BJP leaders alleged they were heckled by AAP MLAs at CM’s residence, Kejriwal says BJP ‘just walked out’
NEW DELHI: Following an alleged “unsuccessful” attempt to initiate discussion over ongoing sealing with Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi said it would approach Union urban development ministry and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to get the issue resolved.
“The BJP tried its best today but could not elicit desired response from the Delhi government. On Wednesday, we are meeting the Union urban development minister and the L-G. I am certain that we will find a solution to the problem,” said Manoj Tiwari, Delhi BJP chief.
Tiwari was addressing the media after walking out of the meeting at Kejriwal’s residence following alleged heckling by AAP MLAs and supporters.
Tiwari went to CM’s place with a delegation of BJP MPs, MLAs, and mayors to have a deliberation over action against the properties for alleged violation of civic norms. Tiwari further alleged that the AAP MLAs and the “antisocial elements” at the meeting had allegedly misbehaved with the BJP leaders.
“They hurled abuses at us. They heckled and thrashed us. It becomes more worrisome if the attack takes place at the residence of a chief minister. We were insulted but we remained calm because BJP wanted to resolve the problem that concerns two crore people of Delhi,” said the BJP leader, adding that he invites AAP leaders for an open discussion at Ramlila Maidan.
Kejriwal said the opposition leaders were ‘lying’. “I made a sincere request to BJP members to sit down and discuss and together find a solution to sealing drive but they walked out,” the CM said.
The meeting ended in chaos as leaders of both parties indulged in heated argument. Delhi BJP
general secretary Ravinder Gupta later filed a police complaint against some AAP MLAs accusing them of attacking his party leaders at the Civil Lines police station.
Rajesh Bhatia, general secretary of state unit of BJP said the action (sealing) should be terminated immediately because it is unfair to “punish traders for the sins of the government”.
“The chief minister’s behaviour proves that the government has failed to address the real issue, which resulted in sealing in the city. We demand suspension of sealing until a system to handle the situation is emerged,” he said.
“The Floor Area Ratio (FAR) should be increased from 180 to 300 as this would lead to legalise properties facing sealing threat,” he said.
