NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old property dealer was gunned down by three bike-borne assailants, while he was waiting in his Wagon R car at a traffic signal in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka Sector-23 on Wednesday evening.

At least half-a-dozen bullets were fired at the car, four of which hit the property dealer, killing him on the spot.

Police said the murder was a fallout of a ‘gang war’ in Bihar’s Siwan district between two suspected gangsters, one led by a criminal-turned-politician who is lodged in a Delhi prison.

The property dealer, identified as Feroz Ali, was purportedly working for the jailed gangster-turned politician.

The rival gangster, Rahees Khan, too is lodged in a jail in Bihar, said police.

Two of the attackers were chased and caught by seven policemen, including three traffic personnel, deployed at an integrated police picket in Dwarka Sector-21 with the help of local people. The third suspect managed to flee with the property dealer’s car.

“The two arrested men were identified as Sabir Hussain and Amzad Ali, both from Bihar. A murder case was registered against them,” said Santosh Kumar Meena, additional DCP (Dwarka). Two pistols were seized from them.

A police officer associated with the case said the attackers were ‘hitmen’ hired by Rahees Khan to kill Feroz.

“The arrested duo has told us that they were paid Rs 1 lakh each by Rahees’s aide for the contract killing. They had come to Delhi only to execute the killing of Feroz,” said the officer.

He added that the third attacker who fled in Feroz’s car has been identified as Sanjay.

During interrogation, the officer said, the two men revealed that they were approached by Sanjay in Bihar’s Siwan with the murder plan. The two joined in the plan after Sanjay offered to pay them Rs 1 lakh each for killing Feroz.

The three then came to Delhi in a train two days ago and started tracking Feroz’s movements and his daily routine, the officer said.

“A contact of Rahees provided the men a motorcycle and firearms. The three tailed Feroz for almost two kilometers and opened fire at him the moment he stopped his car at the traffic signal,” the officer said. Feroz came out of the car and collapsed on the road. Sanjay drove away with his car.

“Feroz too had criminal cases against him in Bihar,” said the additional DCP.
