NEWDELHI: The first list of selected candidates for nursery class in Delhi’s private unaided schools was announced on Thursday.

Over 1,700 private unaided recognised schools started the admission process of the candidates who met their criteria.

Parents have until February 20 to resolve any queries regarding the points allotted to their children. The nursery admission application forms were out on December 27 last year. There are approximately 1.25 lakh seats in nursery across 1,700 schools.

The second list of selected candidates will be announced on February 28 and the subsequent admission lists, if any, will be announced on March 15.

The admission process will close on March 31, the department of education (DOE) circular said.

For this year’s admission, the government did not make any changes in the admission criteria. Schools were allowed to set their own rules and allot points to various criterions such as distance, first child, girl child and alumnus.

“…all private unaided recognised schools shall develop and adopt criteria for admission which shall be fair, reasonable, well defined, equitable, non-discriminatory, unambiguous and transparent,” the DOE said in a circular.

But the department had maintained that all schools will have to abide by the government’s order that had abolished 62 criteria considered “unfair, unreasonable and non-transparent”.

These include oral tests, interviews, achievement of parents, non-smoking parents, and vegetarian parents.

As things stand, the distance criterion carries maximum points in most schools. The radius of the distance differs from school to school. Other criteria include girl child, sibling in the same school, children of alumni and students with a single parent. A hundred points are divided among these criteria.
