PANCHKULA: A day after a 28-yearold woman from Bathinda was killed after her scalp was ripped off during a go-kart ride at an amusement park in Pinjore, the Haryana Tourism Corporation on Thursday set up a probe committee to look into the reasons and circumstances that led to her death.

While riding a go-kart, an open wheel car used for recreational purposes, Puneet Kaur‘s hair got caught in the vehicle’s wheel, tearing her scalp off the head.

She was rushed to a private hospital from where she was referred to General Hospital, Sector 6, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.

The police on Wednesday night had booked the park contractor and seized the go-kart. Terming the incident “very unfortunate”, Sameer Pal Srow, director and special secretary, Haryana Tourism Corporation, said, “The tourism department is a party to the FIR, and has constituted a high-level committee... It’s the contractor’s responsibility to ensure the rules are followed.” He also held the park operator responsible for the accident.

Harbans Singh, supervisor at the park, said, “I had asked that woman to tie her hair, but she refused. It all happened within a few seconds.”

The victim’s family on the other hand rubbished the supervisor’s claim.

“They didn’t give her any clear instruction. Sheer negligence on the part of the park operator and district administration has led to her death,” Puneet’s uncle Bobby Mann said.

“We have lodged a police complaint against the park to serve them a lesson. We have lost our child, but don’t want anyone else to meet such a brutal end,” he added.
