GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad police has completed its investigation into the death of Arman Sehgal, a class 4 student at GD Goenka School in Indirapuram, and filed a chargesheet at a local court, naming several school officials.

On August 1, Arman had collapsed on the second floor of the school, outside his classroom, and was declared dead after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Hindustan Times has learnt that the Ghaziabad police has named several officials of the school in its chargesheet. Also, the police filed the report under sections 304a and 201 of the IPC, as against the original sections of 304 and 201 of the IPC.

The investigating officer Dr Rakesh Kumar Mishr, circle officer (Indirapuram), however, declined to comment.

“We have completed the investigation and will be submitting the required documents to the high court, as it is monitoring the case. At this point, we cannot comment whether the police has filed a chargesheet or a final report. We will let you know once the documents are submitted to the court on February 16,” HN Singh, senior superintendent of police, Ghaziabad, said.

On the other hand, the Sehgals said that the IO had informed them that the police filed a chargesheet in the case.

“We have been told that a chargesheet is filed in the case and also that Section 304 of the IPC has been changed to Section 304a of the IPC, which is a lenient section. It is our legal position that Section 304 of the IPC should have been mentioned in the chargesheet. We will take legal recourse for this and will also demand a CBI inquiry as we are not satisfied with the police investigation,” Gulshan Sehgal, Arman’s father, said.

Ankur Malhotra, chairman of the GD Goenka School, Indirapuram, said the police did not inform him about the chargesheet.

“We don’t know if the police are working under some pressure. In case they filed a chargesheet, we will contest to get it quashed, Malhotra said.
