Rajnath tells Delhi Police to update crime control strategy
NEWDELHI: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said forensic science plays a crucial role in combating crime and told Delhi Police to regularly update and upgrade its crime control strategy.
Addressing Delhi police officers on the 71st Raising Day parade at New police lines in Kingsway Camp, the home minister praised the force for nabbing Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative Ariz Khan alias Junaid and safely rescuing a fiveyear-old schoolboy who was kidnapped on the eve of the Republic Day celebrations. Singh said the force is capable of meeting the highest level of challenges.
The home minister stressed the need for using the latest technology for crime detection and asked the police personnel to create an atmosphere of security in the city so that people feel safe. He announced Rs 5 crore for Delhi Police’s ‘martyr fund’ while asserting that the central government was committed to police welfare.
The minister called for adopting policing methods followed in New York and other US cities. “Crime Control is a big challenge. It requires long term planning and strategy as proved by the success in bringing down crime by the police in New York and Latin American cities such as Bogota,” Singh said.
He suggested the force should update their crime control strategy while working for more effective women and child safety measures, and traffic management in the city. “By bringing

Singh also presented medals to the Delhi Police personnel. The best police station trophy was won by Punjabi Bagh while Seelampur and K N Katju Marg were ranked second and third in an audit conducted by the Delhi Police.
