28yearold who wanted to be a ‘super thief’ held from Geeta Colony
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police have arrested a 28-year-old man from Geeta Colony, who had at least 40 cases of robberies against him and aspired to be a super thief, like notoroious Davinder Singh alias Bunty ‘Chor’.
Police said the accused, Sahib Sabu from Bijnor in Uttar Pradesh, was involved in robbery cases in Gandhi Nagar, Geeta Colony and Krishna Nagar in east Delhi in the last two months. He was arrested a fortnight ago following information that he would come to Geeta Colony to deliver some stolen phones.
Sabu’s interrogation led to the arrest of three of his aides who purchased the properties stolen by him between February 23 and March 6. One of them, Rajnish Manchanda, who knew how to repair mobiles, allegedly used to change IMEI number of the stolen phones. Manchanda has also been nabbed by the police.
Nupur Prasad, deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara), said Sabu wanted to become the new ‘Bunty Chor’ of Delhi since he was inspired by the modus operandi and the publicity and fame Bunty received.
DCP Prasad said Sabu had seen the movie multiple times used to replicate Davinder’s modus operandi – wearing a cap, greeting people before or after targeting a house.
“Sabu mostly targeted firstfloor flats that were locked. If his crime was recorded on a CCTV installed in the house, he used to remove the camera and take it away with the stolen goods,” said Prasad, adding Sabu used to donate food and money among homeless people every Friday.
