GURUGRAM: The police have arrested a 21-year-old man, a resident of Gadoli Khurd village, on Thursday evening from Basai water treatment plant for carrying and selling cannabis. Police recovered 120 grams of the narcotics from him, police said.

The accused, identified as Pankaj Kumar, was booked under sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at Sector 9A police station.

He was presented before a local court on Friday.

The Sector 9A police team on Thursday evening spotted two men outside the main gate of Basai water treatment plant. They noticed one of them was delivering a packet in a suspicious manner.

“When the police personnel went close, the duo tried to flee. One of them was caught while the other managed to escape,” Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said.

Police claimed that Kumar has told them that he had started selling contraband because he was going through a rough patch and wanted to make easy money.

Police said Kumar also told them that he used to buy charas from another villager and sell it to students in the village and others in the industrial area at a higher price outside the Basai water treatment plant and in other areas of the city.

Singh said they have got some leads about the operation of some drug smugglers from Kumar and they would soon act against them.
