Will declare results of 63 students with short attendance: DU

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University (DU) informed the Delhi High Court on Friday it would declare within three days the results of 63 law students who had challenged their detention by the varsity on account of short attendance.

The undertaking is applicable only for those students who had approached the court, the DU said.

Appearing for the DU, senior advocate Arvind Nigam undertook that considering peculiar circumstances of the case, the varsity would also give the petitioners another chance to appear in supplementary exams in case they fail.

Following this, a bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V Kameswar Rao directed that the results be declared in the next three days.

The court was hearing a batch of appeals by the DU challenging a single judge’s order directing them to conduct extra classes or tutorials for those students who are desirous to attend the lectures to make up for attendance shortage.

However, the court made it clear that this would not be made a precedent and from now on no further petitions or any other grievance with regard to this issue would be entertained.

It court appointed senior advocate Kirti Uppal as an amicus curiae to assist the court and posted the matter for November 15.

Several students had knocked the court’s door DU’s decision restraining students from taking exams due to short attendance.
