Do­mes­tic help com­mits sui­cide at IAF chief’s ser­vant quar­ters

A 30-year-old man, work­ing as a do­mes­tic help on daily wage at In­dian Air Force (IAF) chief Air Chief Mar­shal BS Dhanoa’s gov­ern­ment ac­com­mo­da­tion in Lu­tyens’ Delhi, al­legedly com­mit­ted sui­cide at the ser­vant quar­ters on Thurs­day.

Po­lice said the do­mes­tic help, iden­ti­fied as Manoj Ku­mar, was found hang­ing from a ceil­ing fan in the ser­vant quar­ters that was found latched from in­side when a po­lice team reached there af­ter be­ing in­formed about the in­ci­dent.

Ku­mar did not stay in the ser­vant quar­ters, the po­lice said.

The po­lice did not sus­pect any foul play. No sui­cide note was found from the room or Ku­mar’s pos­ses­sion, the po­lice said.

Deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (New Delhi) Mad­hur Verma said that Ku­mar was up­set about some per­sonal is­sues and was suf­fer­ing from de­pres­sion. Po­lice spoke with his fam­ily mem­bers and they told them that Ku­mar was un­der­go­ing treat­ment for his men­tal stress.

An IAF spokesper­son said, “Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mat­ter.”

A po­lice of­fi­cer said that Ku­mar was em­ployed with a pri­vate com­pany on con­tract ba­sis.
