GMDA asks defaulters to update water meters
The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) sent notices to 70 owners of bulk water meters in the city on Friday, asking them to update their meters by February 15.
According to GMDA officials, faulty meters are causing revenue loss to the authority, which spends a huge amount of money on treating and distributing raw Yamuna water.
Sandeep Dahiya, executive engineer and in-charge of canal water distribution of GMDA, said, “So far we have checked 200 bulk connections and identified 70 faulty ones. We have asked defaulters to update their faulty meters by February 15 to avoid penalty.”
Faulty metres include metres not found in working conditions, those that are tampered with, those replaced by owners without intimating the authority and metres not properly installed.
However, there is no provision in the GMDA to impose penalty on defaulters in the way Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam does with electricity defaulters.
“GMDA is working in this regard,” said Dahiya.
