Taken for medical test, arrested man flees police custody

GURUGRAM: A man who was arrested for allegedly trying to steal a car, escaped from police custody after he was taken to a government hospital for a medical test on Tuesday evening.

According to the police, the suspect man was identified as Sakil, from Nuh in Mewat. He was arrested on Monday night after he reached a house to steal a car.

The incident took place on Tuesday around 4.30pm, when he was taken to a government hospital in Gurugram for a medical test.

A police official privy to the investigat­ion, requesting anonymity, said the suspect allegedly pushed one of the police officials and escaped the spot. “We are trying to locate him,” the official said.

On Monday late night, Sakil and at least three of his accomplice­s entered a house to steal a car in Damdama village. However, their plan was foiled when the residents of the house woke up after hearing some noise, police said.

According to the police, the suspect men allegedly fired a shot at the residents of the house, but no one was hurt. They were able to escape, but Sakil was allegedly caught by residents who handed him over to the police.
