Suspect held, days after murder of 4 in Faridabad
GURUGRAM: Five days after a 60-year-old radiologist and three of his family members were murdered inside their house in Faridabad’s Sector 7A, the police on Wednesday arrested the suspect from Shirdi in Maharashtra.
The suspect, identified as Mukesh Kumar, a gym trainer, had fled to Shirdi after allegedly murdering four of his friend’s family members. He took a cab from Faridabad to Delhi airport and boarded a flight for Pune, said police.
Anil Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (crime), Faridabad,
said the suspect tried to mislead his family members and police to escape from the city. “During questioning by the crime teams, he confessed to the crime and said his intention was to rob the couple, but ended up killing them after the family members resisted robbery bid,” he said.
The murders were committed in the building of Dr Praveen Mediratta, a radiologist who lived with his wife and son. The bodies were recovered from different rooms of the house on Saturday around 3pm, after one of the neighbours informed the police control room.
The suspect first attacked Praveen in the basement and later went to the first floor, stabbed his wife, and later attacked the daughter and son-inlaw, the police said, adding that he took stole cash from deceased wallets and fled the spot on his scooter. However, he was captured on CCTV camera footage.
The police also said they are investigating if he murdered them in a bid to grab their property.
Kumar said the suspect frequently visited the family and was a friend of the younger son of the deceased radiologist. “He will be produced before the duty magistrate on Wednesday night and be taken into police remand,” he said.
