India’s oceanic garbage floating into US: Trump

-

WASHINGTON: United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday took a swipe at India, saying garbage dumped into the sea by India — and China and Russia — was floating into Los Angeles.

India, China, Russia and other countries, he said, “are doing absolutely nothing to clean up their smokestacks and clean up all of their plants and all of the garbage that they’re dropping in sea and that floats into Los Angeles, along with other problems that Los Angeles has, by the way.

“Isn’t amazing it ends up in Los Angeles?” he added, while his audience laughed. Trump did not offer any evidence to prove what he was saying.

He had pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Accord in in 2017 — the formal process was launched earlier this month — claiming it was harmful for the United State and that it was loaded in favour of China and India, granting them more time and financial assistance, respectively.

China is among the world’s five worst ocean polluters with Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand. Some studies put Sri Lanka in the top five as well.
