Delhi cop killed in hit-and-run mishap in Ggm, driver held

GURUGRAM: A 54-year-old sub-inspector of the Delhi police succumbed to his injuries on Friday after a cab allegedly hit the motorcycle he was riding near Ullawas village in Sector 60.

The police said that the cab driver was arrested from the spot.

According to the police, Mahabir Singh, the victim, was a resident of Rithoj village in Sohna. He was posted as a subinspect­or at a police station in Delhi.

The incident took place on Wednesday around 7.15pm when he was going towards Delhi from his home on his motorcycle.

Deepankar, assistant sub-inspector (ASI), Sector 65 police station, said, “He was riding his motorcycle when a Maruti Suzuki WagonR cab that was speeding hit him. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Paras Hospital, Sushant Lok phase 1. The driver of the car was arrested from the spot.” He added that Singh succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment on Friday around 2.30am.

A police officer privy to the investigat­ion said that the victim had sustained fatal injuries on the leg and the doctors were not able to stop the bleeding even after surgery.

The police said that the deceased man’s body was returned to his family members after a post-mortem examinatio­n on Friday.

A case was registered against the suspect under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangerin­g life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Sector 65 on Wednesday.

The police have added Section 304A (death by negligence) in the case after the demise of the victim on Friday.
