NEWDELHI: A 40-year-old man died after his former landlord’s 22-year-old son allegedly stabbed him at least eight times in his abdomen with a knife in a public park, in outer Delhi’s Nangloi Friday night. The suspect, identified by his first name Neeraj, was arrested from the Nangloi area itself within hours after the incident was reported, the police said.

Police said the suspect allegedly revealed he was enraged with his father’s former tenant as the latter had allegedly publically abused his parents and had used “objectionable words” against them around a month ago. Although the couple evicted the tenant, Kanhaiya, from their house soon after that incident, their son had allegedly been keeping a grudge against him since then, the police said.

“Neeraj had been planning to take revenge and preparing for the murder since more than a fortnight. He procured a knife from Haridwar, using his contacts, for killing Kanhaiya,” said a police officer associated with the case.

According to the officer, Kanhaiya

was sitting in a public park close to his new rented accommodation in Nangloi with his nephew when Neeraj came and allegedly began confronting Kanhaiya on Kanhaiya allegedly abusing his parents previously. He began arguing with Kanhaiya and his nephew, the police officer said.

“During the altercation, Neeraj took out a knife and began stabbing Kanhaiya. He stabbed him multiple times and which led to him dying at the spot. Kanhaiya’s nephew fled when Neeraj threatened to kill him as well if he tried to save his uncle’s life,” the officer added.

Around 11pm, the police said, the Nangloi police was informed by a local resident. A police team reached the scene and rushed Kanhaiya to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police located the nephew and recorded his statement.

“A case of murder was registered and Neeraj was arrested. The knife he used to kill Kanhaiya has also been recovered,” the officer added.

Police said Kanhaiya worked as a rickshaw puller while Neeraj works in a plastic factory in Punjab.
